Frequently I begin a project with only a color palette in mind. As I work, the rope and how I begin to pull on it, begins to dictate the results. For this particular piece, the colors and waves became a rolling, winter sea.
Coiling is a technique using fabric and/or yarn to cover rope, rope becoming the core. While covering the rope I continually use the fabric to connect one row to the next. In making the continual connections, the piece becomes firm and acquires the desired shape and design.
