This image is cut from pine slab. The natural stress marks on the board conjure up of a storm brewing on the prairie sweeping towards the farm. Windmills speak to people, they remind us of an uncle or grandparent. As one customer told me, if you did not hear the mill creaking, there would be no water for bathing and drinking.
This is the first time I framed a windmill cut from a slab. A simple pine frame feels right. The name of the piece is a nod to Gant Wood… and memories of a not to distant past.
As with all my work, I used my scroll saw in the construction of the art, no computer guided tools.
This cutting is based on my own design. The blades of the windmill are based on one I saw on Windmill Hill in South Llano State Park, Texas
For shipping, my first choice is we meet in the DFW metroplex. However, I will use fully insured UPS shipping at a S&H cost of $87.50.
