Tranquility – Bronze Figurative Sculpture

The figurative sculpture “Tranquility” was sculpted in clay from a live model and cast in bronze using the lost wax method.  Patina is applied to each sculpture, and then burnished by hand to achieve the desired coloration and highlights.  The finished piece is sealed in multiple layers of wax and polished for its protection and luster.

The human body intrigues me.  Its latent power in bone and muscle; its ability to speak volumes without the use of a single word. Whether we are aware of it or not, every nuance of the body’s position conveys an inner truth. By sculpting in the classical style of realistic figurative sculpture, I am able to give wing to my own inner voice.

Cast in bronze.

Limited edition casting of 20.

Four castings of “Tranquility” have been sold and are in private collections throughout Texas and California.

Edition 5/20 is currently available for purchase.

Nan Phillips takes great joy in creating beautiful, meaningful, three-dimensional pieces of glass artwork from flat sheets of glass – cutting and grinding the individual pieces, fitting each piece together like a puzzle, then carefully kiln-firing the glass to achieve her desired shape and texture. Nan creates both functional and artistic glass artwork, along with sculptural artwork in other mediums, and she hopes to share the joy of her art with you.

Nan has been in business since 1999 as Nan Phillips Art Glass and Sculpture. She creates glass artwork and sculpture, plus figurative and abstract sculpture in other mediums. Nan sells her artwork, teaches classes in both stained glass and fused glass, and works with many local art groups. She opened her own teaching studio in 2008 and offers weekly classes in the art of both stained glass and fused glass. (Classes temporarily suspended due to the Pandemic.)

As part of the Dallas-area art community, Nan is the current President and a founding member of Texas Jewish Arts Association, and Past President of Texas Sculpture Association. She has been publishing the Sculpture Association’s weekly newsletter since 2008.  She is a member of both the Arts Incubator of Richardson Advisory Board, and the Richardson Arts Alliance Board of Directors. Nan has served on the Program Advisory Committee of Richland College School of Business; and she is a graduate of Leadership Richardson, Class XXXII.

Every effort is made for the photographs on this website to represent the actual glass colors as closely as possible. However, because of the reflective nature of glass, and the iridescent and reflective nature of dichroic glass, color shifts may occur.

If you have a problem with the artwork you receive, please contact me at: or call 972-238-5842.

When ordering earrings or a necklace: If you require a different ear wire than in the description on this web site, or a different length necklace chain, please contact me to see if the change is possible.  Most hanging earrings can be fitted with clips.

Every effort is made to ensure that all metal jewelry backings are attached securely.  However, if a backing should come loose within 90 days of receipt, please contact me, then wrap the piece properly and return the jewelry and backing, if you have it, and it will be repaired and returned to you at no charge.

Functional art glass pieces should be hand-washed, and not placed in the microwave, refrigerator, freezer, or dishwasher. Every effort is made for pieces intended to be used for food to be food-safe.

Each piece of glass has been properly annealed for strength and durability and should not break under normal use conditions. However, it is glass, and if dropped, it may break. Unfortunately I cannot repair broken glass.
