I was going through some tough times. Maryann and I share many of the same life difficulties – it’s one reason we became close friends. She always calls to see how I am doing. One day she surprised me with a book via Amazon, “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” by Charlie Mackesy. It’s a book about vulnerability, kindness, hope, friendship and love. You can open this book to any page and be inspired with the thoughts and drawings. She knew I would relate to it on so many levels. There are also great similarities in his illustrations and my landscape paintings. So, I took his illustrations and words and turned them into several paintings.
I just loved this page. It spoke to me of Maryann’s gentle kindness.
“Nothing beats kindness,” said the horse. “It sits quietly beyond all things.”
I asked her how she found such wonderful books, she said “I was a librarian, Melanie. It’s been on the New York Times bestseller list for ages.”
She is the sharpest tool in the shed.
