28 wide x 26 tall x 3 deep (cut from Arizona ash)
I was at the sawmill and I saw this round sitting in the burn pile. It was bleached and warped. It had never been through the sander so deep grooves the chain saw scored both sides.
I asked for it and we traded some custom scroll saw work for the board. The surfaces were so rough, I had to buy coarser sandpaper to get it to the point where my regular sandpaper could deal with it.
During the board prep process, I wipe water on the board and hints of glory were there.
I wrestled the board on my saw. It took 3 or 4 sessions to cut the horses. I would come back into the house after each session and report to my wife: “Well, I don’t have to trash it yet.”
Prep done. Sanding done. Cutting done. I put the first coat of finishing oil on and grinned for 2 hours!
Sometimes I get lucky… I’ll keep pushing the envelope.
As with all my work, I used my scroll saw in the construction of the art, no computer guided tools.
