When I began this project I was attempting to create a particular design, but realized fairly soon it was not working as I had hoped. I let go of the idea and let the rope lead me. When I thought I was finished there just seemed to be something missing, hence the Crepe Myrtle sticks. Looking at my finished piece brought to mind little boys with freshly cut, stick-up hair!
Coiling is a technique using fabric and/or yarn to cover rope, rope becoming the core. While covering the rope I continually use the fabric to connect one row to the next. In making the continual connections, the piece becomes firm and acquires the desired shape and design.
