Awhile back, I made a small basket for a friend using these colors. Small baskets do not allow for many rows which means the variety of textures and colors is somewhat limited. I was very taken with the look of the little basket, so much so I decided to make a much larger one. Typically the larger the basket, the greater variety of fibers I use. However, this basket has mostly the same fabrics and yarns I used in the smaller one to achieve a similar look and feel.
Coiling is a technique using fabric and/or yarn to cover rope, rope becoming the core. While covering the rope I continually use the fabric to connect one row to the next. In making the continuing connections, the piece becomes firm and acquires the desired shape and design.
